We don't sell your data, we don't share it with advertisers, and we tell you everything we actually do with it.
1. What we collect
When you sign up for scen, we collect:
- Name, email, college, and gender (optional)
- Profile information you choose to share — photos, prompts, bio
- Your activity on the app — who you crush, swipe, match, message
- Device information — device type, OS version, app version
- Approximate location (city/campus level) — used to show you people on your campus, not to track you
2. Why we collect it
- To match you with other students on your campus
- To verify you're actually a college student
- To keep the app safe — detect spam, harassment, fake profiles
- To improve the app — understand what features work, what doesn't
3. What we don't do with it
- We never sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to brokers, not to anyone.
- We never share with third parties for marketing.
- We never read your private chats unless you report something.
- We never tell someone they were crushed unless the crush is mutual.
4. Where your data lives
Your data is stored on secure servers in India and Europe, encrypted in transit and at rest. We use Supabase (database) and AWS for infrastructure. Both meet standard security certifications.
5. Your rights
Under Indian DPDP Act and GDPR (if applicable), you can:
- Ask what data we have on you
- Correct any data that's wrong
- Delete your account and all associated data — see data deletion
- Export your data in a portable format
- Object to specific processing
- Withdraw consent at any time

6. Cookies & tracking
We use minimal tracking. No third-party advertising cookies. We use session cookies to keep you logged in and basic analytics (PostHog/Plausible) to understand how the app is used in aggregate — not to track individuals.
7. Minors
scen is strictly for users aged 18 and above. If we find an account belongs to a minor, we delete it immediately. If you believe a minor has signed up, email safety@scen.in.
8. Data retention
We keep your data while your account is active. If you delete your account, your data is permanently removed within 30 days, except where we're legally required to retain it (financial records, abuse reports).
9. Changes to this policy
We'll email you and post a banner in the app if we make material changes. Minor changes (typos, clarifications) we'll just update here.
